This office chair makeover turned out even more beautiful than I had hoped. And fixing roller wheels is shockingly easy. I can’t believe I found this great piece on someone’s curb. Can you?
Like a lot of people, my family loves cruising through neighborhoods to see what’s going on. Checking out the landscaping and latest builds is oddly relaxing and entertaining. Right? But it’s extra exciting when you find a bit of curbside treasure on the drive. I stumbled across this awesome chair just as it was put out. The guy even helped me load it up. How nice is that?!
When I unloaded this chair at home, it was covered in dust, rust, and cobwebs. It looked like it had probably lived in someone’s barn for a few years. 2 of the roller wheels were even broken. BUT the best part was that the chair was actually in excellent condition. The wooden frame was perfect, nothing loose or damaged. So, I knew this office chair makeover would be pretty easy.

This is how I found this chair. With broken wheels, ripped fabric, dirt, rust, and cobwebs everywhere.
A close up look at all of that nasty stuff.
Unscrew the seat from the frame and the post from the seat. Remove the seat fabric with needle nose pliers.
Most office chairs use the same size wheels. With a little work, I popped the wheel post out of the frame and added these new roller wheels (aff)
The post was covered in a plastic wood grain. I covered that with glue and twine rope.
After sanding the old finish smooth, I used vaseline, my homemade chalk paint, and more sandpaper to give this chair a distressed finish. (Follow the link to get the full DIY on this paint finish)
I stapled new fabric to the seat.
Then covered that with a thick paper, similar to a paper bag, but a bit thicker.
I used new screws to assemble the chair again. The old ones were very rusty.
I found this awesome fabric on Amazon. So glad I found out they sell great fabric. I really am not a fan of shopping. :)
Looks great at my desk too!
