We want to make a tree trunk corner bookshelf.......

but I have heard you have to dry out a tree trunk for at least 6 months before using it. We don't have anywhere to store one while it is drying out, and I honestly don't want to wait that long. Is there a shortcut method to using a tree trunk as decor in the house? Thanks!

If you don't let the wood age, it may checker, crack and all your hard work maybe for nothing. You are supposed to use a draw knife down one side to remove a strip of bark, then it will crack there (where the bark was removed).

This site will tell you about the wood itself plus how to do it.

How do you clean oven racks to make them shiny again?

Hi. You have posted this question under another person's question that is unrelated, so people may not see it to answer it for you. You need to click on 'DIY FORUM' at the top of the page and put in your question where it prompts you. Good luck! As to the oven racks, I like to use baking soda and vinegar, that sometimes does the trick - put them in the sink, sprinkle with baking soda and spray with vinegar, let the reaction take place and scrub. Or try brillo pads after that to help finish it off.

If their dirty with oven spatter, lay out some newspaper outside. Spray both sides, and put in a large plastic bag, and let it sit over night. Then rinse, and shine up with stainless steel cleaner. When you use your oven next let the smell burn off for about 10 minutes on 400 degrees. Good Luck!
