Hello Glorus42, You have the perfect opportunity to bring in some contrasting colors among your beige base color. You should keep your most expensive and larger colors neutral. That way you can change your contrasting colors (and least expensive) as often as you like. I personally like coral and white. I think they could perk up your beige base. You should bring in the colors that you like. Have fun with it. Wishing you well.

Well if you love the sofa/loveseat, a little painting here and there is no big deal. Start with the accent wall behind the sofa, and get some paint samples and put them on the wall. Bold colors are coming in for 2018, I could see a teal or soft blue wall.

I like the teal idea Sharon suggested, but use whatever accent color you like. FIRST, either buy some accent pillows or material for pillows in the color you want. Then match that color at the paint store. Paint the accent wall, candlesticks, vases, planters, etc. to carry that color to the rest of the room. Even if you use that color to paint designs on a cream vase, the color will carry and anchor the room.

just try some throw pillows that match your wall on the sofa before buying and that will help you make up your mind

you could always brighten the space with cushions and throws..an inexpensive fix that can be changed up seasonally or as the mood hits you

Thanks, Hometalkers. All good ideas and I appreciate your sharing. I went on Labor Day and bought the furniture, then went straight to Ross and found a nice rug, almost 8'x10", that I thought would work. When I put it all together on Wednesday, it looks pretty darn good. The rug has large aster-type flowers in sage green, brown, beige, barn red, rust red, and light blue with some black in the background. I've never been a blue person, but it's a nice change. I used a dark afghan with bookshelves on it on the sofa, which came with black, beige and white pillows, an afghan in barn red and cream on the loveseat with dark sage green, and barn red pillows. I put a multi-colored woven basket under an end table and a natural flat rectangular basket filled with a dark green scarf, assorted fall mini flowers, nuts, etc. and centered with a basket of silk orange, yellow and red fall mums on my round glass-top coffee table.

The loveseat is angled and looks fine on a gallery wall , but I need something behind the sofa still. Have a very large painting from a thrift store, but haven't had time to work with it yet. I did pick up some wall covering at Walmart that is white with brownish birch trees and a touch of the light beige. May be too neutral; we'll see.

All in all, I am most pleased with my "new" look and it bears the approval seal of my college-age granddaughter as well. Again, thanks to all of you. If I haven't used your idea yet, I likely will in the future. Coral and teal both sound interesting especially for summer along with my Crayola Splash curtains, which are just like they sound -- like someone warmed some crayons and threw them at white curtains; some stuck in blobs, some dribbled down. Sounds weird, but if you like splashes of color, check these out through Walmart online -- they're cheaper there.

If it's really what you been wanting it then buy it and you can work around it by just painting that wall behind the sofa as you stated and adding colorful pillows with he wall color along with accent pieces and if you find the right pieces but the wrong color don't be afraid to spray them them to match your decor. A area rug under the coffee table

also adds a layer of color to that room. here's a few sample ideas and it's the same concept if it were the color you choose.
