Spray the outside of your home - the lawn - as that's where your dogs are picking up the fleas. Then rid your dogs of fleas. After that, wash all dog bedding, etc., then vacuum. Remember, there will be eggs, so this has to be done a few times to kill them all as they hatch.

use diatomaceous earth use food grade,, wear. Resperator and eye protection. You can rub it into animals fur, being very careful not to allow dust to get into eyes or respiratory tract. Use diataceous earth outside to kill fleas..also add diatamecous earth to. Wt pet food to kill off worms in intestine. I put it down. Before I leave for 4-6 hours and then vacuum.

This is messy but it works! Buy some diatomaceous earth (available at farm supply stores) , wear a mask, and lightly sprinkle it (a little is sufficient) everywhere on floor (or in nooks and crannies if you don't want to do that..under the couch, by baseboards, anyplace they might hide). Let it sit over night or longer and vacuum up. It is a light brown and my carpet is the same color so I didn't work TOO hard on getting it out of the edges near the woodwork, and didn't vacuum under the couch right away...places where they could hide. This stuff WORKS. It's safe for pets, no poisons. You don't want to breathe it in tho...wear a mask and when sprinkling, Sprinkle low to the carpet so it doesn't go up into the air. It's like powder. This is food grade, is in many foods we eat and is non toxic...except to FLEAS. We did this 5 years ago and I think there must still be a little in the carpet..we have never had flea infestation since. You can use it on wood floors too. Also outside, but rain negates it so you'd have to reapply. I know it sounds like a horrible job but it is so worth it! You can also rub into the fur of your pet. Won't hurt them. Here's a link explaining how it works.

I sprinkle borax all around whenever I sense there are fleas. You can buy it in the laundry section of the supermarket (20 mule team borax). You don't need to use a lot. Sprinkle over the floors, esp. carpets, on furniture, don't forget behind and under cushions. If you can leave it a day or so it's best, as it dries out the bugs, literally. Then vacuum. Also, I give my animal friends brewer's yeast and garlic tabs, which prevents the fleas from hitching rides into the house in the first place. I live in Florida., where fleas are year round, and if I have to do the procedure with the borax once every other year it's a lot. Plus - brewer's yeast full of Bvitamins, and completely natural way of preventing your pet's from being bitten in the first place!

The first thing you must do is rid all your pets of fleas. Use products that come from your veterinarian - I prefer the oral treatments. Fleas live on the blood of your pets so clearing them of infestation is key. IF the house is really bad, have them stay with someone else for 1 week while you clear the house.

Ridding your home of fleas will be a huge task! You must carefully vacuum all floors, pay particular attention to the corners. Empty the vacuum outdoors and securely bag everything.

Wash down your baseboards, floors and all woodwork, rinsing your cleaning rag in hot water often. Wash everything that you can in HOT water and dry on HOT. Anything that you can't wash such as large stuffed animals, seal in plastic bags for 1 week.

All this would be in addition to using room foggers specifically made for fleas. You could also cool your home if possible as the cold will kill fleas. Good luck to you. Work hard - you don't want to have to bring in pest control or replace your carpeting, etc. by allowing it to continue. Plus, you and your family will begin to be bit if you don't get this done!

You will have to spray the home, with you and pets are totally away from the home. It is a can of spray, then as you walk out, there is a setting on the can, that gives you time to exit the home. Make sure all windows are closed, when setting this. Take all animals with you., then when you get home, bathe them all, and you too, to be sure all is totally clean of these bugs. Vacumn also, and clean sweeper, so you wont save the eggs. Best wishes, J.

flea eggs, like cockroach eggs, tend to be impermeable to most dusts, sprays, etc. If you have an infestation in the home, you may have to repeat the treatment in one to two weeks. The methods mentioned by others commenters do work but generally must be repeated a second time to get any critters that were eggs and have now hatched since the original treatment. Diatomaceous earth is available at most gardening centers and the borax as noted is available in the laundry section. Both will work if you want to use natural products that aren't poisonous to you or pets.
