We went to visit my parents house the other day to help build a fire pit. It was a blast building it with my dad! Our family hopes to enjoy it for many years. I will be sharing how it was built so you can make your own backyard fire pit and enjoy it with your families. You will need some bricks, stakes, the outer rim, the inner rim, a hammer, shovel, sand, wheelbarrow, wood, and a great attitude.

We want to help you DIY, so some of the materials in this post are linked to sellers. Just so you know, Hometalk may collect a small share of sales from the links on this page.

Materials I used for this project:

The first step was to lay down the outer perimeter and secure it into the ground using a hammer. I held it in place while my dad hammered it in.

Then we took a wheelbarrow full of sand to the circle. And all of us used shovels to pour it around the area.

I made sure every spot was covered by spreading it out with the back of the shovel.

It was then time for the bricks. We placed them around the inner circle and stacked them in an even circular pattern.

It was a team effort

As the delicious food was being prepared we put bricks down on the area we placed sand on. It was tedious and took some time, but by the end it looked great.

I pounded the bricks we laid into place to make sure they were secured to the ground.

Finally, it was time to put the firewood into the fire pit! We lit it, and enjoyed a wonderful family afternoon and evening with great food, canoeing, and a new fire pit!

Here it is all lit up!
