Fringe adds class and fun to just about everything. Take a look at how I transformed these lampshades and Shower Curtain to decorate our house.
SINGLE TIER LAMP SHADE
STEP 1: Chose the color you would like to decorate with.
STEP 2: Measure the length and circumference of your lamp shade.
STEP 3: Purchase fringe in the color you selected.
STEP 4: Apply fringe to lampshade going around twice for added thickness. STEP 5: Apply Decorative trim to top of lamp shade.
STEP 6: Remove threading at the bottom of Fringe to free the strands.
ADDING FRINGE TO CLOTH SHOWER CURTAIN TO ADD LENGTH AND STYLE
I purchased a standard 74inch wide shower curtain. Bad news is, the glass door in my shower is higher than that & in order to clear the door the shower curtain rod would have to hang higher than that.
ThIS created a 6 inch gab between the bottom of the shower curtain and the floor. MY SOLUTION, add Fringe!
STEP 1: Chose the color you would like to decorate with. I chose a color that was already int he shower curtain that would accent it nicely.

STEP 2: Measure the width of shower curtain.

STEP 3: Purchase fringe in the color & double the width you select. I purchased a little more than double the width so that the trim would appear full and also so I had a few inches of cushion.

STEP 4: Apply fringe to the shower curtain. I turned my shower curtain over and laid it on flat surface. I then took the seam of my turquoise fringe and applied fabric glue long small sections starting at one end of the curtain and going all the way across to the end. To make the fringe fuller, I repeated this process by adding a second row of fringe directly on top of the first row using fabric glue.

STEP 5: Remove threading at the bottom of fringe to free the strands.

STEP 6: Allow everything to dry completely & hang curtain. I hung the curtain back up on the rod and now my shower curtain hangs 6 inches longer filling in the gap that once existed. A-Mazing!

MULTI-TIER OMBRE LAMPSHADE
I created an ombre effect by using three shades of pink STEP 1: Chose the color you would like to decorate with. I am doing pink since my daughter's room has a pink ombre theme happening.

STEP 2: Measure the length and circumference of your lamp shade. This helped determine how many yards of each color fringe I needed to purchase. My lampshade is 15 inches around and 21 inches long. I am going to overlap 3 rows of each color so I purchased two yards of each color to be safe.

STEP 3: Purchase fringe in several different shades of the color you select. I purchased fringe 4 inches long in three shades of pink from Joanne Fabric and used coupons, you can also go to your local fabric store or order online from amazon, Etsy, etc.

STEP 4: Mark lamp shade on two opposing sides to assure fringe application is straight. I measured the length of lamp shade & divided that number by the number of fringe rows I'd be applying. Using a ruler and a pencil, I drew a small mark on the lampshade so I knew where to apply each row of fringe. I repeated this step on the opposite side of the lamp shade as well. (My lampshade is 21 inches long, I'm applying 6 rows of fringe, so I will place a mark every 3.5 inches.)

STEP 5: Apply Fringe to Lampshade Starting at the top of the lampshade, I applied the lightest color pink and worked my way down applying the darkest shade at the bottom of the lampshade. My lamp shade measured 15in around, so I cut each piece of fringe 15.5 inches in length just to give some cushion. To apply the top row, I grabbed my first piece of fringe & added glue along the back of the seam and placed it along the very top of the lampshade. Press along the seam to make sure the glue adheres. (DO not remove the bottom of the fringe just yet, it will make it easier to work with as you apply each row.) I took my second piece of fringe in the same color and aligned the top seam with the marks I made. Now, apply glue to the seam of the fringe and press along the shade. Overlap the end piece just a little with the beginning piece, add some glue to seal and cut off the extra. Repeat this step with each piece of fringe until you reach the bottom of your lamp shade.

STEP 6: Apply Decorative trim to top of lamp shade. To finish off the design, I took my decorative piece of trim and cut it to the circumference of the top of my lamp shade (15.5 inches wide). I then used my glue gun to apply it over the top seam of the very top piece of fringe.

STEP 7: Remove threading at the bottom of each layer of fringe to free the strands.

STEP 8: Allow everything to dry completely & Decorate! I allowed everything to dry completely and attached my brand new lamp shade to the original base. My daughter's crib is a pearl color and so isn't the base of this lamp. Adding the ombre fringe to the lamp shade really transformed it into a GREAT accent piece! I love the way it turned out.

Could you please repost the after picture of this lamp shade. I can’t get it to come up. Dying to see the finished look. 😁

  • Where did you get the decorative trim for the lampshade? And how did you apply the fringe and trim to the shade? Thanks!
