I have a black powder coated steel bed. I plan on buying my first home. So I feel I should change the color of the bed before I move in. What paint should I buy and what kind prep should I do to the bed?

I think you should wait unless you been wanted to chg the color no matter what. Rustoleum makes a great 2x cover spray paint. i clean the priject then lightly sand surface to make paint stick.

you can sand it down then use a spray paint with paint & primer in one. Or even use chalk paint.

Thank you. Will home Depot or Lowe's have chalk paint? I've never heard of it. Is that another term for my powder coated steel frame.

i think you should wait until you have the bed in the room of use. lighting or lack of lighting can cause colors to change hue.

Remember too that if you do decide to spray paint the steel bed, then you will need to do it in a space large enough to accommodate protective cardboard or plastic around the bed pieces that you are spraying, so that paint does not get on to anything else. The area must be well ventilated, dry, and dust free.

It is a lot of work, and the results may not meet with your expectations, or be disappointing. I say wait until you move in, then maybe purchase colorful bedding, or colorful pillows to go in front of some of the black metal. It's a cleaner and faster way of "changing" the color of a bed.

I'm a big fan of chalk paint, it adheres to almost every surface and cuts out half the prep. Let us know how it goes, best of luck :)

they should both have it. If not hobby lobby definitely has spray chalk paint. I'm not familiar with powder coated steel. But I feel like you could sand it to get the loose pieces of old paint off then use the spray chalk paint or even regular spray paint with a primer in one.

Actually yes they carry a valspar and rustoleoumn chalk paint by the quart and also in a spray.

If you use the quart of chalk paint and brush it on I’d sand the bed really well and knock off as much of the old paint as possible and apply a primer then paint it. Most spray paints now a days have a primer in it. Just make sure before you purchase it.
