I promise I'm not crazy! With just a plywood sheet, you can install beautiful plywood planked floors that look just like wood flooring at a fraction of the price! I can't wait to share this easy and inexpensive tutorial with you all!
STEP 1: Clean your existing floors and remove any debris. Also make sure there are no nails sticking out by removing or nail flush with the floor.
STEP 2: Cut plywood sheet to wanted width and cut to length of room. Lay out all pieces of cut plywood before installing.
STEP 3: Nail plywood planks to your subfloor using liquid nails. I linked all materials here.
STEP 4: Using a nail gun, nail your plywood planks to the floor before your liquid nails dries. This will ensure your wood doesn't move and warp.
STEP 5: It's time to stain or paint or whatever you choose to finish your floors in. I used a dark walnut stain and then created a white wash using water and white chalk paint for over the top. Once this is dry, sand with an orbital sander and seal with a polyurethane, preferably three coats for durability.
And for the AFTER! I love how the dark stain and white wash distressed, especially the way that some of the natural plywood color shows through. For a 16 sq foot room, this cost us about $15! Please explain the water/chalk paint process. I am not familiar with chalk paint.
Living in New Mexico we have no crawl space or basement. Just a cement slab. Any idea as to how this can be done on cement without warping? Our great room is 37’ x 25’ and this would really look great! We love the look!
I see where you said "cut your plywood to the length of your room ", what if your room is bigger than your plywood is long? I assume you just butt the ends together? Could you do this with wider plywood planks? Like the older primitive floors?
