Brass door handle

The brass door handle on our storm door is looking kind of yucky. Any ideas on an update. I don't mind tarnished if it was all tarnished, or a brushed look would be nice too?

remove from storm door, then take a long handled wire brush and brush most of the tarnish away, then spray with acrylic clear alweather spray to maintain finish for years

I would clean it and then spray it with lacquer to keep it shiny.... https://www.mnn.com/your-home/at-home/stories/how-to-clean-brass-naturally

Michael has the right idea. I did the same with mine and when I sanded away the "brass" the finish looked like nickle. Beautiful!

One of the things I did was google ' update brass door handle '. I found article after article about how to spray paint them using metal spray paint. One thing I did was take the time to read the comments and many people commented about how they held up. Most said 'Not good'. Some people got a year or so of them looking decent but many said they started to go after a couple of months. It is my opinion, that doing something like @MichaelAffronte said would work better.

This is an ez fix, I'm about to start this same project this week and here's the photo idea. Be sure to use newspaper and take off all areas.

You can start by getting a good brass cleaner, and maybe a book from the library, on antiques, it might tell you how to preserve it once you clean it. Good Luck!

Hi there, my Mom always used ketchup (tomato sauce) to clean her brass ornaments. Squirt some on a clean cloth and rub all over and then wipe off with a clean cloth and buff. You can seal the handles too with a heavy-duty clear sealer.
