Need some fun ideas for how to play with your family in the backyard this fall? This is a great game for tailgating and football season - DIY backyard blocks that you can play Jenga with, or just use to let your kids build giant backyard creations! If you like this idea, you can see more easy and affordable DIY ideas on my blog, Love & Renovations.
You'll start with 6 2X4 pieces of wood (I just used scrap wood from an old project). You'll want to cut the boards into blocks that are 10.5" long to get the correct dimensions for a Jenga game. For a standard Jenga game, you'll need 54 blocks (you can do less if you just want them for building).
Once you've cut all of the blocks, it's time to sand. This is the tedious part, but it's not difficult at all. Just use your power sander to sand each block thoroughly - paying special attention to the corners and edges. Be sure to sand the top and bottom of each block very well - you want them to be able to slide easily if you're playing a game of Jenga, so they need to be very smooth.
Once they're sanded, finish the blocks however you'd like. I did a combination of staining, painting, and just adding some oil to the boards. You can also just leave them bare!
You're ready to play! Stack 'em up and have a blast - kids also love to just build with these! You can see more outdoor ideas for kids on my blog, Love & Renovations!
