How can I make sure that my linen won't lose their colour when washed?

I have a set of sheets and pillow cases that I'm sure will lose their colour when I wash them . How can I prevent this ?

Soak them in a vinegar and cold water solution for about an hour. This should help control the fading.
Wash in cold water with gentle laundry soap like woolite. Use 1/2 c of vinegar in the rinse.
Use Cheer detergent for colored items. Comes in a black jug/bottle. Good also for denim.

Wash with cold water and don't put anything else in the washer with them.
