A great way to add a pop of color and revamp a shelf is to stencil the back! Save more money by using leftover paints!
Pick out a stencil and a 3 or 4 or 5 different colors of paint. This one is from Hobby Lobby.
Remove all of the shelves and sand with 220 grit sandpaper. Use shop vac and damp clothe to remove all the dust. Prime with a bonding primer fit for the surface your are painting.
Paint and sides and back of the shelf. I used SW7017 Dorian Gray on the sides and SW7042 Shoji White on the back that were left over from other projects. Allow to dry. Center the stencil and use a foam brush or roller to apply the first color of paint. You will need to allow the paint to dry before moving the stencil or your paint with coat the back of the stencil and leave unwanted marks all over your project. Tip: keep an oscillating fan aimed on your project at low speed.
Realign your stencil and apply your forth and fifth colors. You only need sample amounts of paint for the stenciling process on a shelf this small.
Allow to completely dry, move into place and decorate!
