  • I spay with full strength vinegar. Find the nest, then drown them, vinegar is cheap as well as environmentally friendly.

Hello Kathy! Here is great information to help you get rid of those pesky ants naturally:

We tried everything to get rid of our ants: poison, bait, everything. Then we learned about cornmeal. Ants cannot digest it but eat it and take it back to the queen so the colony dies. We use Jiffy because it is sweet and they readily gather it inside their nest. Cornmeal works! It is safe for children, pets, and the environment and inexpensive. Any ant colony will die. One small box is usually good for 5 applications. Use a second application if you still see a few ants after three days. I keep Jiffy in my cupboard for new ant colonies, especially in the spring. We do not have ants invading our flower pots or yard now.

Nice, simple recipe: 2 cups sugar 1 cup water 2Tbspn Borax
Directions: Place all ingredients into a saucepan and bring to the boil (while stirring). Boil for 3 minutes. Using the plastic lids from milk containers place it in the effected room or outside where the ants are. They will find the sticky liquid no matter where it is placed. The ants eat this and then take it back to their nest. Before long there will be no more ants as this mixture will kill them.
Store remainder in clearly labeled container with "Do NOT Eat" so no one mistakes this for syrup as this is poisonous.
    Good luck!

If the ant hill is in your lawn or garden, do not use it as it will kill every thing it touches, both above and the roots where it sinks into the soil. It also sterilizes the soil and nothing will grow there for quite a while.
