Setcreasea Pallida (also called Purple Heart or Purple Queen) is a tender perennial used as a houseplant or an annual in landscape applications. It makes an interesting piece for a combination planter as it grows upright to a height of 12-18 inches tall. As the plant gets bigger, the stems will cascade under their own weight. Although it produces small pink flowers in the spring, its large purple leaves and stems set it apart from other plants in the houseplant category. In zones 9 and warmer, the frost will kill back the top foliage, but the plants recover quickly in the warmer weather of spring.

You just stick it in dirt and water it, it will grow. Bring it in for the winter.

Definitely looks like wandering jew. It is also great in hanging pots. There was some growing wild at the edge of an apartment parking lot next to my house and it came back every year until they got it with a snow plow one year and must have killed it somehow because it never came back again. It was growing out of a cement block.

Although I find it to be somewhat delicate and fussy as a houseplant, it is very easy to cultivate from a cutting. It won't flourish, but a cutting will live forever in a glass of water.

I had some that I had started from cuttings and nurtured for over 20 years. My Victorian era house was a blue/gray with white trim on the wrap-around porches. I had white hanging pots of these for every section. The colors were very complimentary. I wintered them over in classroom windows at the middle school where I taught.
