When to decorate for Christmas?

the day after thanksgiving is when i start pulling Christmas decor out. i will start to pack up jan. 2. i have several smaller slim style Christmas trees., and there will will be a tree lit up in every window. each with a different theme.

I start my decorations the beginning of December, that way I can take my time and enjoy the experience. I usually put on the Christmas CDs and enjoy. I decorate my guests area, dining room frontroom kitchen and baths. If the grand kids are coming for the holidays I also decorate their bedroom with their own little Christmas tree that they can decorate.

Black Friday is my day to decorate for Christmas. My family is home and helps. We decorate every room including the bathrooms. The ladies do the inside and the men do the outside. Its so much fun!!

I have an artificial tree, so I start the first week of December and leave the decorations up till January 6th. I no longer decorate every room, only common areas: kitchen, living room and bathroom. I use mostly the same decorations, but put them in different spots. I have been decreasing the decorating since I no longer have young children around.

Great question! I have outside holiday lights up by Thanksgiving as in my neighborhood it is tradition to turn your holiday lights on Thanksgiving night! Typically that is all I have up as the porch decor is still "fall / Thanksgiving" themed items. Thanksgiving weekend is when I start switching from the fall decor to the holiday decor. In my opinion they "commercially" rush the seasons far too early for my taste. I can see the reason in craft and hobby stores as people need time to procure supplies and make things but there is no reason that Halloween candy should be in the stores in August! When it is 100+ and blazing hot outside it is hard for me to even think of Halloween at that time. Besides I guess that they bank on the fact families snack on the candy and will need to purchase more before the actual event. (Halloween is a big deal here, my typical year is around 500 kids - it is an investment.) I decorate the outside, front porch, living room, guest bath and a few things in the kitchen. Some things go in roughly the same place every year, and I try to mix it up and add new things or do something to keep it fresh and new. We shall see this year as right now I feel like bah humbug! 🤐

I typically decorate the weekend of Thanksgiving....and I leave it all up until the week of New Year's. I usually do one main tree in my front room, and then miscellaneous decorations and Santas scattered throughout other areas. Don't usually do outdoor decor anymore, but saw a cute idea on Pinterest so i might reconsider this year.

In our neighborhood we usually light the outdoor decorations the weekend of Thanksgiving. Everything is then taken down on January 6, the feast day of the 3 Kings.

Since childhood we decorated for Christmas on Thanksgiving! I put something seasonal in every room, whether a scented candle, a vase with fresh greens and a branch of berries or a bowl with pinecones! I use a new wreath every year that I make myself using natural items for inspiration!

I start the outside first weekend in December. It usually takes me most of the day, then start on the inside. I don't fully decorate each room, but I put a Christmas decoration in each. I have small, artificial, undecorated trees that go in the bathrooms, I put a small decorated tree in my bedroom and front entry and a stuffed Christmas toy on the steps to my son's room. I also set up a lighted village going up the stairs.

Yes, I have favorite decorations that I use every year. One is a Santa dressed as a chef that goes in my kitchen.

I personally like to have all my decorations up before Thanksgiving. That gets me in the spirit and I can enjoy it longer.

I decorate right after Thanksgiving but you can decorate any time you like! If you have a special sewing room or doll room or office...put the tree up, decorate it and leave it up all year long....can change ornaments as seasons change! Just do your own thing!

We put a few things outside, and put the tree up about 2 weeks before. My kids put garland and lights everywhere.

Wreath goes on front door right after Thanksgiving. Now that I am older, I purchased a table top 4' tree at Home Depot complete with lights. Inside wreaths go up as I get to them. Downsized from 9 boxes of decorations to 4-5, and some of them were not even used last yr. Saved many memorable items from my childhood and my son's childhood. Used to decorate every rm. in the downstairs but it's too hard for me now.

When I was younger, I started decorating after Thanksgiving and put out new things all over the house up to putting away time. I had favorite ornaments and decorations that I was glad to see after a year. I relived past Christmas memories with each one. Kinda like a time capsule. The most important thing is to suit yourself.

Whenever you want to. I have a dark corner and leave my lite decorated faux green tree up all year. It blends well with our rustic decor and the ornaments are rustic Western. Plus I just loves trees, brings nature inside.
