Refinish bedroom set

Brenda
by Brenda
I have an old oak bedroom set and I am so tired of it. I am afraid I will mess it up and I don't know what to do or how to do it. I want a beautiful finish and not some bright loud color.

Hi Brenda. You can sand it down and then re stain it. It is work but very rewarding once done.

or you can strip with a stripper that says on the front of the can, it removes stain, and then stain any color you like. Minwax has a really nice new gray stain or you could whitewash with 1/2 paint 1/2 water.... right now white, gray and pale blue whitewashes are popular. Its a lot of work.

Painting is easier, pick a color you would like to change your bedroom suite too, lightly sand, then prime and paint with a satin finish as its easier to keep clean. I use a 6" smooth foam roller to paint and then lightly drag a good brush over the surface to remove any texture.

chalk paint is easy. With two coats there are no brush strokes. Be sure to seal with Min Wax wax.

Its scary not knowing the end result, but try adding new hardware even to the dresser with the tv to bring it up to date and in the book cases the back shelf try adding colored paper if painting it is overwhelming. Spray painting does work great if your lightly coat it each time. Here's a few photo ideas and a before and after of a dresser spray painted💡📌
