Mine turn yellow later in the year, but actually ripen throughout.

Normally citrus ripens more towards late in the year. Give it time, it is still young and you will get used to its schedule.

My lemons were green all summer and only turned yellow in the dead of winter. Of course in North Carolina I have to bring it in for the winter, so I am not sure if California weather will have them turning sooner or later than NC. You may have to sacrifice one of the fruits to check the inside, but I wouldn't do that until the fruit softens a little. But whatever happens, you have a beautiful plant and it looks like it enjoys your California weather.

  • It is not the time of year for them to ripen, they will, just be patient.

I DID THE SAME THING WITH A TANGERINE TREE. THEY WILL TURN YELLOW WHEN THEY ARE RIPE. JUST LIKE ORANGES OR ANY CITRUS. WHEN IT GET COLD OR ABOUT FEBRUARY

let it grow to see if it lightens, but looks like a lime. Take a sprig, twig, leaves, fruit, to tour local garden center (real garden center not Lowes, Homedepot) they can tell you what it is. If you are near your State University, you can take it to your States Cooperative Extension Service there to ID.

You may have gotten a lemon tree from Mexico where limes are yellow and lemons are green.
