How do I decorate and place furniture in an open concept house?

Our house burned and we lost everything. The house we are having built is open concept since we are both in our eighty's. I like color and not browns or tans but love blues and teals with other accent color but what?

How about gold? Or you can find a lot of tropical prints that would work.

Thank you for your idea but I'm more into pastel colors now. I once did red white and blue. LOL

Thank you Nancy. Our two dogs made it out but lost my 2 cats and all my endangered birds that I have bred for years. Stuff can be replace.

we are in our mid 60's, and are re-doing a flooded home in the same basic colors. Blue, teal, cream, gold, and silver. We added a persian rug, with dusty pink as the primary colors. it is coming out amazing, rather like an indian wedding sari. We empathize being forced to do a new home at this stage in life. It just all seems more complicated. good Luck!

This sounds wonderful and just my colors. The teal and gray with touches of dusty pink and the rug to tie it together plus separate the different areas would work. I really like the very light gray porcelain wood grain flooring for up keep and being pet friendly. I sympathize with having to start over. I had what I liked but have lost all my antiques.

Different shades of grey! Or even a vibrant orange! So sorry about your house burning!

Put your color in fabric like curtains, throws and tableclothes, with your walls a neutral (does not mean tan or white)

Good idea to keep walls neutral. I have several artists in the family so have many paintings and a neutral would set them off.

Picture would be helpful, I'm so sorry you had to go through that and I hope you new home well let those memories fade and your enjoy your new home. Start with your furniture pick a area rug that goes under coffee table in teals and blue this will be your starting point, then add pillows, a throw and paint one wall a shade of blue then start will decorative accent items.
