I just screened in my patio and wondered

if there were any ideas as to what I can do, short of having windows installed, to protect the furniture and inside of the screened in patio.

Well I have read many use shower curtains on a rod is one solution. You can get clear ones.

Turn canvas drop cloths into drapes. Lots of DIY directions online.
  • My girlfriend and her hubby made framed plexiglass "windows" to fit each opening. They put up in the fall and take down in the spring - makes it almost a 4 season "room" and winter some plants in there too. They are in the mountains of NC.

Is it under roof? If it is and is the roof is out far enough, it may be fine but it also depends on where you live. Does your screen go to the ground or only partway, then have some type of aluminum wall or other? Since most of us have the worst rains come in from the west, or sometimes south, you may have to add those vinyl, pull/ roll up or down type curtains on one side or all if you wish. I knew someone who had them years ago and had furniture and it was fine and they were on the outer part of the screen, but I have no idea of the price or who carries them . You might be able to install them yourself.

Perhaps you could use some kind of roll up shades on the outside to keep rain, etc. from coming through the screen.

there are fabrics and curtains made for outdoors that could be hung, pulled back when you are outside and then closed when you aren't using that area

Get canvas drop cloths (they are hemmed all around) hang curtain rods, get clip on hooks, attach to drop cloth, hang them on the rod and voila protection achieved and the cost is minimal.

Thanks. I had some up on the West side prior to having the screen installed and they work well.So far, I like the idea, though of canvas and the clips because the drapes were outrageously expensive. Thanks again.
