How can I cover up this hole in our ceiling?

Suggestions for covering up ceiling opening. We will be putting in a ceiling fan with lights. As you can see dealing the ceiling opening is our the issue.

    what about those decorative circles or diff shapes that u find at lowes that go around light fixtures and celling fans to help hide cracks or holes in the sheetrock im sorry i dont know what their called

    They're called Medallions for ceiling lights/fans. They can be plastic, metal and/or anything you can think of. Try Dollar General, Home Depot and Lowe's.

    Patching the Hole With Drywall


    Rectangular holes are easier to patch than irregular ones, so you must first shape the opening with a drywall saw. To provide something to which to attach the drywall, slip a piece of 1-by-3 lumber in the hole and drive drywall screws through the ceiling to hold it. After cutting the patch to the same dimensions as the hole and attaching it to the wood with drywall screws, tape and finish the patch with drywall tape and joint compound. After you texture the patch to match the rest of the ceiling and paint it, it should be invisible.

      Thanks. I have a small hole about 1 foot in my basement ceiling. Contractor made it installing AC ductwork and left it for me to fix. your repair idea is great. I can do it. Thanks.
