Have you checked Home Advisor? They have reliable people who have gone thru background checks to qualify to belong in their group
start with recommended licensed electricians listed, and follow up with consumer affairs to make sure they are legit
Your power company should have an annual home energy analysis where they look at heat leaks, and what is driving up your costs. Call the power company to set up one.
Call or email the inspection bureau and ask for recomandations
I tried Home Advisor to find someone to do some handy man work. None of the people they recommended lived in my area. Here, we have "South of the city" and "North of the city". There is more land room in the city plus north and east and while we're getting "Southtowns" businesses many of them are located north and don't want to come south (it can be a 20-30 min drive). Nobody wanted to travel that long (it's mystical why people think we're so far away but it's okay for all of us to go their way?? Odd to me [Oh but they will travel here for a football game. The stadium is 5 min away. LOL ]) So just be aware if you try Home Advisor. I did much better joining NextDoor.com. This is a lot of groups that concentrate on a specific area by zip code. You put in your zip code and find 'neighbors' that way. I asked there for a handy man reference and within TWO days the job was done by someone local. Having said that, checking with your power company is a great first step. Then you'll have and idea what you're dealing with and what to tell an electrician. Good luck, I wish you the best finding someone who can do your job well.
I don't like Home Advisor. Contractors pay for advertising and to be placed on top of their referral list. That's why it's free to consumers. They get paid by the contractors. A friend was looking for a concrete contractor and used home advisor. Got a contractor that goes by three company names. Followed up a BBB check and turned out this contractor ripped off customers and had two suits filed against him. Another case an electrical contractor turned out to be a handyman who never pulled permits or notified the utility of work being done. Customer was fined by the utility for illegal meter removal.
Look for any local electricians and do a BBB review. Talk to your village building department and they can refer electricians that have worked in your area. Also the power company may be able to recommend a contractor that they themselves use.
ask some friends if they know someone ,the yellow pages? in any case get two or three estimates for the job. they are not cheap. could cost you alot.
And I always start with my state contractors license board, plus they have great tips for the consumer too. I am also on Nextdoor, but always check their license first.
