We would like to cover our horrible Popcorn ceiling in our Kitchen?

Is there any type of nice wide boards, we could paint white, that aren't too thick that we could use to cover the horrible popcorn ceiling's in our house? Especially the kitchen? We are not going to try and remove it. Being pensioners, it's just too much work, and we cannot afford to hire anyone. Our Grandson's can help us with thin wide boards. Would we need something underneath the boards first? Any suggestions would be appreciated. icon
Thank you.

Check your local home center for a product called bender board. It is very thin and made to bend. You could attach some furring stripes to the studs in your ceiling and then attach the bender boards to the furring strips. That way, you could take it all down later if you chose to.

I would invest on removing it, it's safer for your health and will add to the value of your home.

What about polystyrene boards stuck straight on. Light and easy to work with. Also added insulation. I stuck some directly onto a ceiling for insulation purposes. Look good too

why don't you scrap it off. It's a mess and tedious but can be done. A licensed professional is better to do that as it is a hazardous material. Sorry I said anything but it is the case. I was going to do my own until I learned of this. It takes several hours but a professional has the correct equipment and they clean everything up and will paint your ceiling too! I asked at lowes and they gave me a few names. I was very happy with the results. Check it out! Good luck

We want to eventually do the whole house as we can afford it. Unfortunately hiring anyone is just not in the budget. We know it should be scraped off, but just plain cannot afford it.

Was hoping someone could tell us if we need anything put on first before we put boards on? Even those will be bought a few at a time.

The Polystyrene , bender board and bead board all sound very interesting. Am going to look into them. Hopefully one will work.

Any other board suggestion will be well received too. Thank you all so much for your reply's . Some of these we have never heard of, should be interesting looking into these products.
