Suggestions for changing up bed look?

This is a pic of our headboard and towards the foot of the bed we have a ceiling fan. Right now the room's in disarray or I would have taken the pic in there. ☺ I have always loved the 4 post netting look, but would just like a change. The walls and carpet are neutral colors and the bedding is blue and white. I've also included a picture of a cubby that was built in to the room. I'm not an expert though. Any suggestions would be great. 🖒

  • What do you want to do? To me it needs pops of color, everything is too bland and too much of the same flat tones. What style do you like?

I really don't have a style, I truly am a zero when it comes to decorating at all. I've actually know some guys that are better at it than me, no joke. Very open minded to ANY suggestions, but I'm not ready to paint for a few months.

Sorry for the generalization, but I'm kind of a blank slate. Not ready to do any heavy duty painting yet, but other than that I'm open to ANY suggestions. Think of it this way, you have someone who has zero idea how to decorate and go from there. I'm very open minded and won't take offense to all suggestions. ☺

This will be great for starters as it's cost effective, easy, and versatile. Thanks.

I would personally make a faux fireplace out of that entertainment center. get some throw pillows for the bed. and go to dollar tree, get some of that thick white poster board, cover it with matching fabric or contrast fabric that matches the throw pillows. Cover the mirror with that. Put a few books on it. http://www.bedroomi.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Bookshelf-Headboard-white-color-contemporary-style-and-there-are-several-pillows.jpg ..Like this.

I would pull your pillows out from under the bedspread and place them on top and get a pair of Europe Pillows and stand them behind your pillows and then 2 or 3 cushions placed at the front. Go a deeper blue for the Europe pillows and then go for the smaller cushions of different textures/ patterns in blue and white. Then get a deep blue throw blanket and throw over the end of you bed. I just picked blue to pick up on the blue in your bedspread, but you can do this with any of your favourite colours.

I would also do modern sidelamps on each side of the headboard.

Love your wall colour near the teddy bears! I would remove the teddy bears from the top of the cupboard for a minimalist look and if you still want them displayed you could do 2 floating shelves or put them in the cubby. I would include a leafy indoor plant ( real or artificial)

I understand and appreciate your honesty; why don't you start with new bedding: sheets, comforter, throw pillows. If you aren't sure of the color try neutrals, earth tones: shades of beige, eggshell, grays you can use green as an accent color and don't forget plant real, dried or silk. Repeating and layering you primary color is very powerful. Your bed should look like a cloud, it should feel like one too. What ever you do, stay true to yourself and be you.

Lots of ideas and I’m a designer so many ways to go. I agree on the stuffed animals. If you really want them out just rotate one or two on display. The have a way to put mosquito netting up as a veil where a headboard goes to give you the height and look that reminds you of a four poster bed. Quick easy fix and from there but a bed set is the easiest for someone who doesn’t like to match colors. Settle on a color with whoever shares a bed with you then look online or in person for what speaks to you. ALWAYS get bedding that makes you smile. Now pick a small color from that pattern and use that for curtains and little accessories! Voila!

Your room looks small. Personally I'd get rid of that huge headboard. You could mount a large mirror horizontally on that wall to reflect light. To brighten the room and if your budget allows, paint the walls a cream color and consider a white ceiling hugger fan to give you more height, the white will blend in with the white ceiling. Sheer curtains will also allow light in from the windows. Visit your local thrift store for a different quilt. Bringing in color with your linens will change everything up and give a new feel to your lovely room. Best of luck.
