I am replacing the hot & cold water handle in the shower.

All the handles do when I replace it is spin and I have a constant small water leak/flow. Is there some sort of caulk or something to make the replacement handle 'grasp', trying to do this what seemed relatively easy project rather than hiring a plumber or handyman.

I'm no expert on this at all, but did you check that the new handles came with washers? Whenever we have a leaky faucet, that's what we check first.

Did you use plumbers tape to seal it? Its very cheap to buy & very very easy to use! I just installed a new shower head & stopped that leak with this tape. Next, (today) I am fixing my garden hose spray nozzle with it too.

  • To me it sounds like it might be stripped thread or broken stem. Unless you are comfortable repairing yourself, call a plumber and test repeatedly for several minutes before they depart to make sure it works properly.

No. You need to get the correct handle . take your old ones with you when when you buy the right ones ask a sales person to help you. When I say old ones I mean the original Handel's for your shower.

I agree with Dennis. There is not a one size fits all.
