You know how I love a good garage sale find and here is yet another in need of a makeover. For more details and photos, visit my Vanity Chair Makeover post. Let's get to it!

I started by taking the seat off. I removed all the staples thinking I could salvage the original wood but, it was pretty gross. I just decided to trace out the old seat onto a new piece of wood. I then cut it with the jigsaw.

I sanded down the wood and stained it.

When it was all dry, I tried free handing some wording onto the top of the seat using water based and oil based paint markers. I've never done this before! I first wrote the wording out in pencil and went over it with the markers. You can barely see my writing in pencil but, I swear, it's there ;)

When my doodling was done I sprayed it with a clear matte spray.

Meanwhile, I'd been working on the chair itself off and on. I'd decided to sand it all down. Even though I was painting it the exact same color it was. Tell me I'm not the only one who does that! It was chipping pretty bad and I didn't want to risk my new paint job. These are the times I wish I could sandblast. Although, I have heard there are places that can do sandblasting for you but, I've never looked into it, have you?

It was definitely a lot of work but, absolutely worth it. I used sanding sponges, brushes, steel wool. You name it, I used it. When it was all sanded down, I spray painted it in a white matte spray paint.

Then, all I did was reattach the seat. Before I'd even started on the seat, and after I'd cut out the circle, I marked where the screws would go and pre-drilled. I ended up giving this little chair to my niece and I guess my next task is to take a picture of her using it

Chalk painted a desk. Used rust oleum clear matte for chalk paint, brush on from a can. It left odd white streaks over my perfect blue surface! Any suggestions for a better top coat.
