How can I lighten dark kitchen cabinets w/o having to sand?

To? I can only assume you meant replace. If I am right, you can take off the cabinets and hardware and strip and stain or paint. Or if you have pretty stuff inside, you can do some of these. Hope that helps.

1. Lightly clean/scrub with any liquid deglosser/ liquid sandpaper and steel wool
2. Wipe with a water-dampened old textured cloth or towel to remove the crud left by the deglosser.
3. Let dry.
4. Apply a high adhesion primer
5. Paint.
