Should heating coil be avoided in oven cleaning?

    My mom had an electric oven that conked out every time she tried to clean the oven. If you are using commercial cleaner, it should say on the can. Your owners manual should give you info on how to treat your coil.

    Yes. Any cleaning product on the coil can create a hot spot and short it out.

    I've never had any problem, but when I rented, I covered it in foil, before spraying the oven cleaner.
