Is there a way to forever get rid of voles from my flower bed?

I'd love to plant a variety of flower bulbs and see flowers year after year. I seem to spend my money feeding voles instead. Two years ago I planted the bed full of daffodils (poisonous). That time they all came up. But the next year, fewer did. It seemed they may have eaten only enough to develop an immunity. All of the planting I di just seems to make the voles more vigorous and virile. Any great ideas?

  • I made a windmill and it worked great! Now I hae 6 dogs running around, no underground pests for me! Purchase or make a windmill and / or borrow your friends dogs to come run, jump and play!

I buy the kids large windmills at the dollar store each spring to add to my collection in my veggie garden each year. It seems to help having them spin around in the breeze to ward off the critters in the garden from feasting on the young tender shoots coming up. I just move them as the plants get bigger so that they are near by to continue their spinning. So far I have close to two dozen. The windmills go fast in the spring, so you have to keep watching to make sure you can get some. I like the metallic ones, the sun shining on them seem to work even better.

Put down grub killer since that is what they eat. Also place human hair in mulch or when planting bulbs. Keeps squirrels and moles away.

This is such a timely suggestion! Our granddaughter is with us for a short time. She is removing her seven-year-old dread naughts and has pulled-out hair all over the place! Thank you . I'll quit putting it in the compost.

Wal-Mart carries a product for around $17, they are poison worms which voles love. Voles dug tunnels everywhere in my lawn, this was the only product that worked.

I'll look for it. Do you know the name? I've tried many other commercial products that didn't work. I'm not willing to dig up my flower bed.

Try putting crushed oyster shells in the hole before you put your flowers in. You can also plant your flowers in a large pot, doesn't have to be fancy and cut the bottom of the pot out so the roots can grow. Voles do not dig that far in the ground. I have some of both in my yard and no more disappearing flowers.

I haven't tried oyster shells yet, thank you. I did try planting the lovely calla lilies my daughter gave me last Mothers' Day in the pot, however. They didn't survive. I thought it was because i'd enlarged the drainage hole and gave the voles room to get at the flower roots.
