Hostas. They are beautiful, come in plain and variegated varieties, have small flowers and spread to fill in areas. Really easy to grow. They do need water, but not excessive.
Hostas, astilbes, lily of the valley.
bleeding hearts. Lily of valley is but is also poisonous to animals if eaten.
I have hostas and liiy of the valley in my front yard that get no sun at all due to a huge mature maple tree and they do really great. I planted quite a few last year and they are already almost half of the mature size without any sun. The hostas and lily of the valley are very drought tolerant. I have two huge hanging pots of tuberous begonias that did extremely well with little to no sun light. They grew very big and were full of flowers. I also had elephant ears and coleus that did real well with almost no sunlight other than a little evening sun.
Hostas like shady areas and they have a lovely flower too. You don't have to dig up each year and they do spread. Check with you local nursery, different areas are better for somethings

I love Hostas and recommend them to you. They come in so many sizes and so many color combinations. They do very well in the shade.
