take the knobs handles off. If you know how old your house is.....does it have any chance of lead paint? If it does, don't sand the finish off...strip it. Rinse the stripper off with rubbing alchohol. Won't raise the grain like water can. Let dry....start at the back of the cabinets and work your way to the out side. Don't paint in humid can cause the paint not to dry correctly...and make the finish sticky.

Start by cleaning the cabinets with Murphy's oil soap according to the directions, and wipe any extra residue. Next remove hardware, and 3-4 doors. Lay the doors flat to paint, this avoids streaks and bubbles. Buy a high-gloss paint, so you can clean it with a wet rag. The hardware can be spray painted, or you can buy new. If you buy new, it will be pricy, but it will give a clean professional look. Good Luck!

If you use Frenchic chalk paint all you have to do is wash with sugar soap, then paint let dry then do another coat
when dry put finishing coat on to protect job done no need to do all that prep
    hope that helps
