How do I "fix" a horrific colored living room on a $50.00 budget?

if you have an Ollies or big lots. Their paint is a lot cheaper.

Without knowing the whole story...Why not just leave it and use coordinating colours and patterns to enhance it?

Check at the local Habitat for Humanity Store for donated paints. ALSO paint stores will sometimes sell OOPS paint cheaply.

White wash it with any white latex or acrylic paint...even primer or ceiling paint would work, mixed with water. You wouldn't need a huge amount.

Put up a big quilt or rug on a wall to break up the colour.

Paint big squares of white or different colours from pillows, curtains, rugs etc, , then put framed pictures inside.

Paint white stipes or any other colour...you'll only need 1/2 the paint.

Well unless the living room is very very big, your budget will cover the walls with some economical paint. Remember the 1,2,3 rule.

The coverage has improved over the last few years, but you can usually get about that for each can. That said, there might be other things you can do. One is to cover two accent walls with paint and cover the others with curtains made of sheets, contact paper, and more.

How big is the room? If it were me, I would wash the walls and spend the $50 on Kilz or Zinnser primer and at least it will be white. You will need to rewash the walls again before painting your chosen color at a later date, but you will be halfway there. Fall spuce up sales are going on now to pretty up your home for the holidays, you may be able to find the primer on sale!

Depending on the size of the room, $50.00 should buy enough good quality paint. One thing I have noticed with some paints, don't opt for the most expensive in the store; i.e. Sherwin Williams high dollar stuff is like spreading glue; it's thick. A great brand but whichever store you go to, ask for a step down from their highest priced and emphasize you want it to flow. My living room had 3 taupe walls and 1 blue with a black fireplace surround. I cut out a tiny bit of Sheetrock and had the taupe matched. The mantle and fireplace surround is now white. It's so easy to match earthy tone furniture and jewel tone pillows.
