Lucky you. You have more diversity in your zone than I do in the Gulf Coast. Natives are always desirable, but you can also put in tropicals in pots then you can move into a greenhouse or garage during freezes. Roses will do well, mountain laurel, all types of bulbs (except tulips; they'll be a one time planting unless you dig them up after blooming and replant each year.). Decorative grasses of all heights and colors will do well. Hope this starts you on some ideas. Happy gardening! Oh, and fall is our best time to plant!
