Bath Tub surround

Question

I want to use corrogated tin for a bathtub surround . Tub is iron with ceramic tile about half way up the wall. I'd like the tin to come down from the ceiling and meet the tile. Gonna tear out the old sheetrock so I guess I need to use hard rock . Do I need to seal it. HELP

Go on DIY net work and check out some of the bathroom renos..how to use the waterproof 'sheet rock' and the waterproofing sealer... you might be better off removing the tile and going all the way down to the tub, making sure the tin allows water to run off into the tub and does not stay on the rim. I want to use the tin in our small bathroom, but am concerned that the edges of the tin are VERY sharp (and the tin will eventually rust).. I am thinking about using the corrugated fiberglass panels (painted on the back with silver paint) and sealing the seams with silicone. There is a rippled trim piece (it is a composite or plastic) that would stand up to the water.

Use green board. Hope you're lying the corrugated horizontal otherwise it's going to be really hard to have a clean transition to the tile. If you are laying it long-ways, I'd make sure the cut of the tin will lay flat up against the tile. If you're laying it vertical, I'd add a pvc board over the tin to the top of the tile. You can seal tin with several things: 1. paint, 2. polyurethane, 3, wax, If it's galvanized, don't bother.

Hello Lucy Seale Gallman :) Well, that sounds lovely to have corrugated tin meet your tiles halfway! I would love to see a picture of that when you are finished! Anyway, the first link below says you do not need to seal it (it shows THEIR shower with corrugated tin) HOWEVER they finished by using some Rust-Oleum Crystal Clear Enamel on theirs. Now MY question is this: if it didn't need some sort of sealer to protect it, WHY use CLEAR enamel on it? http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/an-unexpected-combination-corr-111748
