You could build a simple frame to sit it on, or use hairpin metal legs. That would leave your edges intact, as you could attach it underneath.
Myvote is for decorative wrought iron brackets. And I would do 5 of them for interest - hopefully evenly spaced and hit the studs! Here are some cool examples.

I think we will do both floating and then add a couple brackets underneath for looks =)
