Is it the marble you want to redo? Or the surround or the mantle? Freshening up the mantle and surround or hearth usually gives you the best bang for your buck.
You could sell it and get the one of your dreams if its in good repair. Is it a very old one? contact a antique dealer or an architectural recycler.
I want to redo the surround and floor aka hearth.
