When hand washing dishes or just rinsing them off in the sink, let the hot water run for a couple of minutes to make sure that all of the grease/sticky stuff makes it to the sewer lines.

thats a good start. Husband was a 30 year retired Master Plumber in San Francisco, CA. Hot water is a great start. He would also ad a squirt of dish soap with the hot water while running the hot water. That helps brake down any grease that is trapped in the lines too. Also remember that a garbage disposal is NOT a replacement for the garbage can.

Make sure all the shutoff valves under sinks, toilets, are working, make sure you know where whole house shut off is: test all of these every so often to make any leak containable and not a whole house disaster.

Always good to know how your pipes inter the house, ran thru the house and how your sewer is ran thru the house. Couple of questions. What year was the house built, do you have a Septic system, and your fresh water is it a Well or public Utility?
