It's really a rectangle 3' by 105 inches one side has a 5 1/2" beam that is holding up the porch roof that is the problem. I now have my neighbors extra house bricks that look good but I have to find more that size and you know how to stagger bricks as long as I don't have to cut anything I'll be ok. But you know that's too easy. -:0)

I'd like to see a photo too, please. I'm thinking some kind of plastic edging if you don't want wood, but that's not really cheap either. We invested in it this year to go all the way around our home. We're on a corner so 2 sides show plus part of the back. It seems to keep the dirt in, but not the weeds out. :( But you didn't mention weeds, just dirt.) We found our edging (that looks like white brick) at Aldi but at the beginning of the spring season. I've also seen it in catalogs - Collections, Inc. comes to mind but it was a bit more expensive. But again, this was during the spring so I'm not sure what you would find now. Personally, if you want to do something now, I'd head to the garden centers - especially at Walmart. They seem to have a lot of garden accessories and if you find something now, it might be marked down. Lowes and Home Depot are other possibilities or even a local nursery. A locally owned nursery might not have what you need right now, but they might be able to special order what you want in the spring.

Best of luck with your project and be sure to take pictures as you go so you can use the "Post Project" link at the top right of the page so that we can learn from what you did.

Home Depot is a joke, stood at the contractor desk, on a Sunday, for 15 minutes as employees just walked by until one women told me that they were closed on Sunday, no sign no nothing she got a young to help but that didn't work out either. Trying to figure out how many I would need.....Thanks anyway. Pensacola FL

I missed this before. I can understand why the contractor desk would be closed on Sunday. Most contractors take Sunday off. (Unless they're working it as a side job) Home Depot probably doesn't have enough contractor business on Sunday to warrant paying a higher priced employee to work on that day. They'd probably have to pay double time as well. I get that. I know when I was using a contractor to repair some storm damage, he would say things like "I'll pick up the windows the first thing Monday morning and then head to your house."

So if I understand correctly, you really want bricks that you don't have to cut. Is that right? Maybe you could find a building around town where they are getting rid of brick??? I'd also keep my eyes open for other people removing brick from their homes. Many times they don't know what to do with it. I'd also suggest craigslist.com or try nextdoor.com which is a social group of neighborhoods. You put in your address & zip code and they put you in a local group. Just to be polite, I wouldn't ask there right away but first get a feel for the group. Another option is freecycle.org. If they have a group in your area you might be able to ask there. Be sure to read their terms and conditions because some groups ask you to wait a week or two before posting for something. Also follow the format of Wanted: Offer: Promised: Taken: Etc., It will be in their terms. Some groups are very serious about the Wanted and will remove or delete a post that says "Needed" or "I need" because the purpose is to recycle things someone doesn't want, not to provide items that someone needs. Hope that helps you find what you really want.
