We are replacing lap siding on home built in1948.

The contractor used trim nails and the siding looks like it's pulling out and warped as you look along the side visually. I've read that they should have used ring shanked nails. Home Depot sells galvanize. Should we use stainless steel nails or galvanize?

If you'e gonna replace some, replace ALL of it. Then use the appropriate nail for the new siding. It comes with instructions.

Stainless steel or high-tensile aluminum ones are better. than Galvanize.

The nails should have ring or spiral shanks; smooth-shank nails tend to pop out.

Your nails also need to have heads on them.

Ideally, your nails should penetrate the base wood at least 3/4" deep.

    Hope that helps

You can use screw instead of nail. There's a screw that they sell in home depot that specialize to use in this area and that's what I have in my home and I never had to worry about those lose nail popping out due to temperature changes
