Is there a way to get rid of wrinkles in a carpet without having to stretch and re-affix the carpet?

As you know, the carpet has probably stretched. You can try a steam iron with a cloth on the carpet. When the carpet gets very warm put something heavy on the area. That may work, but in the end the carpet more than likely needs to be re-stretched.

Call in professionals to re-stretch carpet and attach to carpet strips.

This usually happens because the under pad has started to break down and it no longer supports the carpet. Sometimes you can lift one edge off of the tackless and have someone shuffle with you from the wrinkle to the loose edge. Then while standing there you want to push the carpet back down onto the tackless strip with spackle/putty knife or some other blunt tool. Once you get it to catch on the tackless you can press your shoe down along the edge to get a little better grip.

If the carpet is new it could be poor installation or maybe installed while AC was on too low. If that is the case you need to have it restretched.
