Should hydrangea and blue iris be cut back in the fall

I am fairly new to gardening and I am looking for gardening tips on hydrangea and blue iris also bulbs planting. I live in a zone 3 area... any and all garden tips are most welcome!

Hydrangeas bloom in the spring on the previous years new growth. So, if you want abundant blooms in the coming spring, hold tight. Prune your hydrangeas after they bloom next year.

Blue iris doesn't need to be cut back at all. It will natural die down in the winter and rebloom in the spring. Hygrangea, on the other hand, does need to be pruned to the ground. You can prune now or in the spring.
Our hydrangeas did bloom this year as I cut them back last fall! If you cut them back do so early in summer to thin out, do not cut after July.
