Do you rent or own? If you rent I would look for a color or pattern of contact paper that you like and use it to make a sort of backslash. Or maybe even just use it to form a pattern on the wall by cutting it to the size of the tile and applying. If you own you could change the color by painting the tile, or using a stencil to create a mural. Just go crazy. Also paint your wall shelf to match the window trim and get a colorful non slip rug for in front of the stove.
Buy a plastic stick on scene from amazon or Groupon that looks like a tropical outside theme. For the wall, you could even continue the tropical theme w a bamboo shade, that looks like a fence if you turn it sideways and make sure it's not near the flames!
I would turn this into a cute farmhouse kitchen. Remove all the top cupboard doors and line them with contact paper. Stack dishes and glasses in them. Change the flooring to a light colored wood floor. Remove the tiles and paint the walls. Make an accent wall of stone or brick. possibly the one behind the stove. Paint the bottom cupboard and drawer fronts a darker gray to match the counter top. Add a Black iron pot rack on one wall.
Work with what you have! Keep your kitchen in shades of gray and white. As Janice suggested, paint your lower cabinets a deeper gray, but consider going two to three shades darker than your countertops to give the room some depth. Keep the white tile - it's simple and classic. Paint the wood area around the window that appears to be chocolate brown a soft gray (this will likely need a good primer and two coats of soft gray). As Lappteri suggested, get a good non-slip rug for the kitchen. Consider shades of cream and gray with your favorite accent color. Buy some matching dish rags. Consider a coordinating fabric for your window. Paint is relatively inexpensive and should you give you a lot of "bang for your buck." Good luck!
Hang a nice picture, baskets or favorite texture fabric over the wiring beside you knife holder. Raise stove to counter level (if gas line allows, possible with brick or stone block) and shorten the glass back splash to under window (or remove) and put shelf in under window, if you have nice pots and pans hang them on wall where your black cart is,(to the right of the stove) and use the shelves for items presently on black cart. Don't know what is between the refrig and the stove, but could have shelves there also. if possible bring wall out even with refrigerator. I would put in a raised shelf ( measure space and 1/2 half of that would be the height you get) on counter for all the counter items, to give you more counter working space, would not have to be attached just raised, doesn't have to be all the way across, but cluster items together instead of spread all the way across the counter. If you don't like your cabinet back ground, maybe paint all to match. Paint the window white and glaze glass panes, so light will shine in, no curtains because of stove. Don't know how much space is in the center of the floor, but great place for a raised 12' to 18" counter bar for your plant and pretty color vegetable ornaments, as well as some of your counter items you use on a daily basis. I use that space more than any other place in my kitchen. It makes for a great center piece area (draws the eye to something like a plant or color) and I have stools at mine. Looks like you have a great space and lots of cabinets, hope these suggestions, give you some ideas that may appeal to you. Sometimes all it takes is another persons eyes to see what you would see a an idea you had not thought of, don't be afraid to ask a friend or family when they visit.
