Carpet or Laminate flooring? Which is more budget friendly?

We are also trying to figure how if we should do this ourselves? House is about 1,000 sq. Ft

i honestly think that you'll get more long term bang for your buck with laminate as there are nice looking laminates for little money per square foot and they'll last a good long time. Inexpensive Carpet on the other hand probably won't stand up as well. Additionally, laminate is a better diy option.

I just had a good laminate installed throughout my basement living area. Love it. Carpet wears out and mats and with the right care and prevention laminate will wear for a long time. (easier to keep clean also)

We have several floors with the "snap and go" laminates, one bamboo, one cork and one hardwood, all are working well and were easy to install. I also have one floor of actual hardwood that was relatively easy to install, just took a little longer to match pieces to our liking. One additional thought, carpet hides all sorts of "nasties", your house will be cleaner and healthier without carpet.

Laminate is easier to keep clean. Carpet cleaning is more labor intensive.
