You probably have scum & hair build up. If you can't remove the plate to use a hair catcher snake 1st, shake baking soda down holes & then pour distilled vinegar in & cover hole so solution stays in drain & doesn't bubble out. Then pour hot water into drain to flush everything down.

Pour one cup of vinegar down the drain.

Pour a half cup of baking soda immediately after the vinegar.

Wait 2 hours then pour a gallon of hot water down the drain. I have not done it on shower drain just to my bathroom sinks. It works well. Hope this helps.

First, take the drain cover off and use a tool to clean out the hair. Then run HOT water for 1 minute. Next pour 1/2 c. baking soda followed by 2-3c. white vinegar. Leave it for 10 mins. or so and run HOT water. You may have to repeat. If this does not work, call a plumber.

You should be able to take the drain screen out, then wear rubber gloves, and get out the 'gunk stuff' which is most likely what is causing the odor, then use an old toothbrush and loosen up anything further down the drain, pour 1/4 cup of Dawn mixed with two cups of very warm water, wait about 10 minutes, then run water into the drain. The Dawn with loosen any 'greasy gunk'. Be sure to clean the drain screen, and do this about once a year.

Pour baking soda down the drain. Following that with vinegar-- it's going to make a volcano in the drain that will work at the odors by cleaning the sides of the pipes. Follow that by warm water. You can repeat this a few times and it won't hurt the pipes.
