How to lengthen a dining table

I have a dining table that doesn't have a leaf that I want to lengthen so I can seat 8 comfortably. Has anyone tried this and how did it turn out?

Since you can' extend the table to put in a leaf you made, the easiest way it to buy a 4 X 8 sheet of plywood and have them cut it to the size you want then lay it over the table top.

I need to lengthen table in middle so the 3 chairs have more room. My idea was to cut table in middle, put an 18" "leaf" in & then put a cap of sheet metal over whole top. I've seen this on Pinterest but that table already had a leaf & wasn't a solid top like my table.

That sounds like a way to extend your table if you want to keep it the new length and want a farmhouse look. Remember to brace it underneath.

I took the easy way out. I used a sturdy card table. then purchased a piece of plywood and cut a piece to the exact form of my table and additional length that I wanted. (you may want to increase to fit a party of 10.) Then attached the piece to the card table. I used rounds that I purchased at Home Depot to increase the height to match the height of the table.

This way I did not change the integrity of my dining room table and I could fold up the extension when I wanted.
