My neighbour crushes egg shells and put them in the garden. I thought that was only put around the edges to keep the slugs and other bugs away.

Adds calcium to the soil. Helpful for some plants.

When you have egg shells, they should be crushed and soaked in warm water overnight. The next day drain shells and put the liquid in the garden near flowers. This is supposed to add calcium to plants where there is a deficiency.

It is good for tomatoes at least. I puree them first and add a little water to pour it around the tomatoes.
