Yes, sprinkle the mulch with cornmeal. It kills the colony when they take it back to the nest. We use Jiffy as it is sweet and they love it. We keep Jiffy in our pantry, especially in spring when new ant colonies move into the yard. I promise it does get rid of them. Reapply as needed after a rain or if the colony is large. I seldom have to use 2 applications. One box of Jiffy will usually work for 5 applications. It is inexpensive and safe for children, pets, and the environment.

We get the biggest dollar store cinnamon and sprinkle it around the perimeter of the house. I don't need to kill the ants, but I want them to stay outside. The cinnamon is non-toxic and blends in well.
