I have always wanted to try this! Here is a site with step by step instructions and photo illustrations to make your own. Good luck! http://www.instructables.com/id/Aquarium-Coffee-Table/

Keep in mind that both water and glass are very heavy. Make sure that whatever use for the base/legs will be strong enough to support this weight.

Just make sure that you are careful with electrical cords that may have to run across the floor to power pumps and filters. Make sure that your filtering system is easy to use and clean and able to get filter material without ordering on line when you need them. My house is filled with aquariums from five gallons to 150 gallons. Other than the five gallon that is on the end table, We got 1/2 inch plywood and cut it larger than the aquarium stands, stained or painted them and topped with marine polyurethane (two coats). This will protect your floor from water spills when working with the aquarium to clean or add water. This can be finished to match the flooring, or go with the wood you are using to make the table. Just a couple of suggestions to think about from someone with years of aquarium experience, both fresh and salt water.
