How do I prepare my small tomatoe garden in the northeast for winter?

    remove and discard any debris.Next season add amendments to the soil and rotate the crop

    Once the tomato plants are done for the season, dig them up and put them in the garbage, or burn them. Just in case, you don't want to contaminate your soil for next year with any fungus or disease they could have carried. Make sure you pick up any leaves, tomatoes, etc. are picked up. Cover your garden with shredded leaves, cut grass, etc. at least four inches deep after you take care of any weeds that are around. This you will till or mix in next spring in the soil to help nourish the soil for the next plants you put it. It is straight forward, just clean up and cover.

    Do you have a compost bin? Don't put old plants in that but good for add'l soil in the spring...
