.CAN YOU HELP ME LIGHTEN UP THE FAUX STONE ...OR MODERNIZE IT..ALSO WHAT WOULD YOU DO TO THE TILE AROUND BOTTOM . REALLY CAN'T AFFORD TO REPLACE MUCH.....JUST CELEBRATING OUR 50 ANNIVERSARY AND LIVED HERE 48 YEARS.... ALL DO IT OUR-SELF PROJECTS. HOUSE HAS HISTORY.
WE ARE COUNTRY FOLKS ,WITH A FLARE FOR COUNTY FRENCH , OR COUNTRY MODERN. OLD WITH THE NEW. SO THANKFUL FOR SOME EASY CONCLUSIONS . WALL COLOR IDEAS... THANK YOU JER- BARB.
I personally love how it looks now. Why do people continue to want to redo fireplaces? I don't get it.
You can always "white wash" it.... Just take acrylic paint and thin it with water, and wipe it on the stone with a cloth, or brush it over with a chip brush. I'd have a cotton terry cloth handy to pat off anything that is too strong, or leaving lines. You could try a mix of 1/2 water to 1/2 paint. But you should use a high end paint, and not a cheap one. IF you use a cheap one, then use less water.
I love your fireplace !! I love all the photo etc of the Eiffel Tower. The only problem with painting brick or rock, is you will have to sand blast to remove the paint. Our fireplace is all painted bricks. They are ugly bricks, so paint does improve them. May I ask, what is on your ceiling ? It kind of looks like it snowed, upside down.
I would not paint the fireplace. Leave the tile alone. Not sure if you are looking to change your color scheme. I think a soft gray / or soft gray blue would bring out some colors of the faux stone. Use the same color for the walls and the area surrounding the fireplace, or go just one shade darker on the area around the fireplace. Switch our your decorations. Think of it as dressing up a plain dress. You don't want a lot of little things going on. Instead opt for one large picture (preferably with a brass frame) , some heavy brass candle sticks. (brass is coming back big time) The brass will pick up the brass in your fireplace doors. Or two pictures which compliment each other and a traditional mantel clock in the middle. Something pretty on your hearth - a big basket with firewood? A basket with fall flowers, switch out for pinecones in the winter? Either side of the fireplace a book case - these can be made or use stock ones from a big box store. You have a great start here, just need a dew tweaks. Don't be afraid to look at theft stores for these items I suggested. Almost EVERYONE is shopping there now. (Outside my Goodwill store are BMWs, Cadellacs etc.) Great things for your home, when you get tired of them, just re-donate or pass one to someone else....
