First off, the easiest is if there is another pot inside of the decorative pot. That is usually how they come when bought. About once a week or ten days, fill the whole thing with tepid water. Let it soak for about ten minutes, remove the inner pot and let it drain in the sink. Your done. If you want to fertilize, get orchid fertilizer and use according to the directions, but isn't really necessary. We have two and maybe get fertilized twice a year, and flowers two to three times a year. They like a bright window(ours is a south window), but not direct sun. Please do not do the ice cube watering that are usually what the directions tell you to do. Orchids live in the rain forest up in the canopy attached to trees. They live off the humidity and what rain water falls on them, there is no way ice is present in the rain forest and will not be good for them. When they are happy, they will let you know by growing and producing marvelous flowers for you.

I heard that if you put two ice cubes in it once a week that should do it. Easy and no guessing amounts.
